Welcome to new members and some old faces. It was a great turnout with approx 20 people including familiar faces and new members. Thomas and Libby put on a delicious dinner (lasagne and garden salad) and some tasty beers (cherry sour and a brown IPA). We thank them for once again opening up their soon-to-be-open Thirsty Messiah venue for the club.
General business discussed included:
The up-coming Hunter Brew Comp (4th June).
If you are able to assist in either stewarding or judging, please make sure you register on the comp website (https://comp.hunterbrewers.com/) so we know how many volunteers we have. You don’t need to be a trained judge etc, there are many ways you can help out. It’s always a fun day and you get to taste all different types of beer and hang out with great people all day (or as long as you are able).
To show appreciation to all our generous sponsors, we encourage all HUB members to mention their appreciation to the sponsors when they can and to continue supporting them in return.
Bitter N Twisted
It’s fairly clear that Bitter N Twisted will be on this year after 2 years of cancellations. The club has reached out to Maitland City Council to see what they would like the club to do as part of the beer festival. For those that don’t know, Hunter United Brewers usually have a stall there where we serve our beers to the public. We also run beer appreciation sessions for the public as part of our offerings. More information to come on this.
June AGM
The next meeting is the AGM. Annual club membership fees will be due for the new financial year. The next email about the meeting will include details of how to pay etc.
Style Appreciation: Monastic beers
This month’s style appreciation was Monastic Beers (BJCP Style Category No. 26). We managed to get hold of some quality examples of styles from the International Beer Collector (https://beercollector.com.au/):
26A. Belgian Single,
26B. Belgian Dubbel,
26C. Belgian Tripel, and,
26D. Belgian Dark Strong Ale
It's exciting to see the club getting back into the swing of things post COVID. Thank you again to Thomas and Libby at Thirsty Messiah for welcoming the club into your venue.
Cheers,
Andrew
